We had a fantastic tour with Djordje on Easter Saturday - it was the highlight of our weekend in Belgrade and I'd thoroughly recommend it to anyone interested in getting an alternative, creative and unexpected view of the city. We started by buying camera film at a hidden-away store, which Djordje loaded into one of his cameras and allowed us to use as we took in some of the lesser-seen design and architectural elements around town. Djordje put everything into cultural context for us and was a fountain of knowledge about Serbian/Yugoslav history. We saw things we would have just walked by unnoticed on our own - a back-alley open air art gallery, a semi-derelict 80s shopping precinct reclaimed by independent makers and creators, typography and graffiti that told fascinating stories. It all ended in a flea market filled with treasures, some delicious strudel and a list of recommendations for the rest of our visit. Spending the morning with Djordje was like meeting up with a friend.
