1.5 hours drive from Portland, but this is a stunning 6 mile in and back hike along Opal Creek and it's protected ancient forrest. "Google it" for trail info or visit the Friends of Opal Creek Center in old town Portland for a map etc. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED DAY TRIP (take backroads, wine country Silverton etc., fantastic day)
