A fun little trip to find the headwaters of the Potomac River. The North Branch of the Potomac River (mainstream headwater) rises in the western Allegheny Mountains near Fairfax Stone, a monument at the Maryland-West Virginia boundary. The Potomac enters Chesapeake Bay between Point Lookout, Md., and Smith Point, Va.
