Looking over Milford-on-Sea, Hurst Castle was built by Henry VIII in 1544. It is famous for being the prison of Charles 1st and offers amazing views for the Solent. Make sure you travel down the steps to the dungeon and travel to the East and West wings to see where the gunpowder was kept and how the soldiers lived. What we love the best is that you can take a ride to the castle using the ferry. Getting to the castle isn’t pushchair-friendly though as it’s all shingles. You can find Hurst Castle at Keyhaven, Lymington, Hampshire, SO41 0TP.

Beautiful walk along the headland with the sea on one side and Keyhaven on the other. There is a ferry in peak season that can take you back to Keyhaven if you are too tired for the return walk!
On a nice day wonderful views walking down Hurst Spit, an option of a ferry back
Discover this artillery fortress built by Henry VIII at the seaward end of a spit. Commanding the entrance to the Solent, Hurst Castle offers one of the best views in England. It played a part in the imprisonment of Charles I in the 17th century and defended England from invasion threats in the 19th and 20th centuries.
