The Royal Library is made up of two sections: the original building, founded in 1648, and the modern extension, completed in 1999. The newer part of the library sits on the shores of Copenhagen harbour, and is known as the Black Diamond due to its marble exterior. The interior is a fascinating piece of architecture, whose central hall is accessible to the public.

The Black Diamond in Copenhagen was finished in 1999 and is an extension to the Royal Library. The building is shiny, black facets mirror the sea and the sky at the harbour front.

Old architecture meets new at the Roal Library. Grab the cities' best (and most expensive) coffee mocha if its cold, and go upstairs to see the study halls and enjoy the ocean view.
