A cultural center in the town of Mashpee. The town of Mashpee is the location of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, one of the two federally recognized representative bodies of the Wampanoag people. The museum was established in 1997. Since 1999 the site has been listed under the National Register of Historic Places. Small but lots of information.
Open M-F from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit the museum which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Known as the Avant Homestead, the museum provides information about the history of the Mashpee Wampanoag. Staff can talk to visitors about a variety of historic facts as well give a tour of the traditional "wetu" or house on-site.
