Former US MIitary post and National Historic landmark in Durant OK - Visitors to Fort Washita can tour restored structures, witness Civil War reenactments and take part in the yearly Fur Trade Era Rendezvous to experience what life was like before and during the Civil War. Check out this gem of history!

Beautiful sprawling grounds. Very interesting ruins. We arrived only about 30 minutes before closing. The gentleman who ran the Fort was happy to tell us a little. But suggested we keep an eye their calendar. Things are coming back to life. They even offer haunted tours! We were able to walk to several of the buildings and ruins. It was amazing and HUGE. The grounds are well maintained and just beautiful. If you are heading to the Durant area, this is a must see. Check hours before you go...which is what we should have done! There was no cost to enter, although donations are appreciated.
