Matka - A gorge in which a rich complex of medieval building survives, including churches, monasteries and remnants of a fortress (the medieval town of Matka).There are dozens of caves and large number of endemic plants and animals. The Canyon covers an area of around 5.000ha and is located 15km south-west of Skopje.

Located in Canyon Matka Skopje on the river Treska and Matka Lake which is the oldest artificial lake in the country. You can rent a canoe here and take a tour for the beautiful Vrelo cave and several medieval monasteries.

Beautiful scenery near Skopje, local bus available. Take the boat ride on the lake which will take you to the Cave, local guide comes with the boat. There are hiking trails and some serious climbing available here
