The library has 4,500 Greek manuscripts which is one of the greatest collection of Greek scripts. There are also many chrysobulls and archives of the Greek Revolution. It is situated near the center of city of Athens. It was designed by the Danish architect Theophil Freiherr von Hansen, as part of his famous Trilogy of neo-classical buildings including the Academy of Athens and the original building of the Athens University. It was founded by Ioannis Kapodistrias.

The Athenian Trilogy! These are the 3 neoclassical buildings on Panepistimiou street, designed and built in the 19th century by Danish architect Theophil Hansen. From left to right, it’s the National Library, University of Athens and the Academy of Athens. How to get to the Athenian Trilogy: The three buildings are just outside Panepistimio Metro station of the red line (2). A number of bus lines passes by from the area as well. It is just a 10-minute walk from Syntagma square.
