After the creation of the parish of Vianden on the right bank of the Our around the middle of the 13th century, the Templars of Roth built a chapel for the inhabitants of the left bank attached to their parish. In 1545, a cemetery was built to the left of the church. Following a fire, the sanctuary was rebuilt in 1724. In 1907, Charles Arendt gave the exterior a neo-Gothic character. The altarpiece of the choir with the statue of St Nicolas dates from 1768. The holy bishop is revered as patron of merchants and boatmen. The stone statue of St Jean Népomucène, canonized in 1729, comes from the Our bridge where it has been replaced by a copy. This saint is considered as a protector against the dangers of water and as a model of the confession
