Each site is convenated by QEII National Trust who describe Mahakirau "outstanding for it's ecology and wildlife value with brown kiwi, kaka, Hochsetetter's and Archey's frogs all present". It has amazing views , the ocean is literally at your doorstop, it's super quiet, the boat ramp is a few metres down the road, handy to great fishing spots - mussel farms are only a short boat ride, safe harbour for water activities - kayaks available free for your use, but life-jackets are not supplied and need to worn at all times.
