As the evening winds down you'll enjoy the spectacular colors as the sun sets over Fort McHenry and the city. Other things to note Come prepared for a enjoyable sail. Descubre un fuerte secreto de la guerra civil
We're going to explore one of the true hidden wonders of Washington, D.C., a Civil War fort nestled deep in Rock Creek Park. In July, 1864, a Confederate Army attempted a surprise invasion of Washington, D.C., hoping to sow panic and drive Congress and President Lincoln from the Capitol. Confederate forces swept into the city, and fought a desperate battle among the northern defenses of Washington. President Lincoln rode over to the see the fighting, the only time in American history a president has been under enemy fire. Eventually Union forces repelled the attack, and Washington was saved. It’s considered one of the greatest what-ifs in American history: Had the Union lost the battle, most historians believe there would have been a negotiated settlement to the war, and a durable Confederate nation. We’re going to visit Fort DeRussy, one of the forts that drove back the Confederate attack, and learn the full story of how the Civil War came to Washington. Abandoned after the war and overgrown, Fort DeRussy was practically lost to history. Today, it’s virtually unknown: I grew up blocks away and didn't even know it was there. It's an astonishing, beautiful ruin in a peaceful forest grove. Other things to note Please check the weather in advance and dress accordingly. Wear clothing that you don't mind getting a bit dirty and be sure to wear comfy shoes.

We're vaccinated for your safety and peace of mind! When you book our sailing experience, your payment goes to fund our non-profit outreach programs. Join our group experience as we sail around Baltimore Harbor and the Patapsco river (can be booked as a private experience as well). Do as much, or as little as you like. Take the helm, hoist and trim the sails, tack, jibe, or just sit back and enjoy the ride. We'll leave from Tindeco Wharf and sail out into the harbor. From there, we decide to sail toward the inner harbor or out past Fort McHenry, into the Patapsco river toward the Key bridge. This is a great opportunity to get more sailing time and develop your sailing skills under the watchful eye of a US Sailing Master Instructor Trainer. Never sailed before? No problem, during our time we'll teach you as much as you want. Just get away from it all on a relaxing sail? That not a problem either. Bring snacks and beverages to enjoy and just take in the breeze and enjoy the sights and sounds of sailing. Other things to note We're sailing on the 36' sailboat so it's not likely you'll get wet (unless it is raining). We will sail in light rain, but not in thunderstorms. This experience is only offered through AirBnB Experiences. If you enjoy your experience, it is okay to tip your captain and crew as you would any other in the service industry.

We're vaccinated for your safety and peace of mind! If you've ever dreamed of sailing in a tropical paradise, we can help you get a great start to achieve that dream! From the very start you'll be on our stable and comfortable 36' Sabre sailboat, Condor. We'll jump right in with a little hands-on theory and terminology. You will be steering and hoisting and trimming sails, putting the theory you just learned to practical use. We limit the class size to five students to ensure that everyone gets sufficient hands-on time to learn and practice and ask questions. During this class, you'll learn basic sailing theory, terminology, and how to steer, hoist sails, trim sails, and tack. You will also have the opportunity to see many of the famous (and not so famous) Baltimore waterfront landmarks. Other things to note We're sailing on the 36' sailboat so it's not likely you'll get wet (unless it is raining). We will sail in light rain, but not in thunderstorms. East Baltimore Mural Tour
The East Baltimore Mural Tour takes us through a neighborhood generally only enjoyed by those who live there. There are community narratives that we will be privy to as we sojourn deeper into the thick of the city. There is a series which was begun in the community organization BOCEK and based upon the people who run it and take care of their community. Through this tour we will gain a deeper appreciation of the interconnectedness of city neighbors; how they care for oneanother, grow together, advocate for their families, and support the efforts of revitalization. This longer tour is rich with both contemporary and more traditional walls. Tour goers will experience quite a bit of work by Justin Nethercut, better known as 'Nether', as well as Charles Lawrence and Bridget Cimino. Most walls were completed within the last 7 years. This tour will shift one's understanding of the innercity. Many misunderstand how lovely and interconnected the city is because of the juxtapostion of the grit of it. This tour hopes to shed light on the flipside of the perception of the innercity.
Charles Village Street Art Tour
In this walking tour, you will begin your journey at Sophomore Coffee. Then you will begin a very diverse journey through charles village to learn about the local restaurants and street art to be viewed here. This area is not dominated by any one art movement but rather is a lovely mix of artists and a nice sampling of both international and local creators. A 60-90 minute walk covers a brisk walk through residential, commercial and slightly industrial area. You will view work by artists: Gaia, Michael Owen, Nether, Decertor, John Ellsberry, and Greg Gannon. At each wall, you will receive unique details about the artist, who funded the wall, the concept behind each, year it was created, and stories behind the origin. This tour is truly about if 'the walls could talk' - come join me to learn about their stories.
West Baltimore Tour
Our guests will meet at a hidden gem called the Avenue Bakery. There we will begin our journey to discover the richness of West Baltimore through its history and murals. This area of town has such deep roots into the civil rights era, desegregation to today's street artists who pour their hardwork onto the empty walls here. There are some powerful social justice murals made in response to the black lives matter movement, including portraits of trayvon martin and freddie gray. Baltimore is such a rich place for the work being done in equity and equality for race relations - the art displays this, as Baltimore has been a majority african american city for quite sometime. Many of the businesses and places we learn about in this area of time have been in existence for quite sometime with long multi-generational stories beginning with the bakery we are meeting at which is known for Poppay's rolls!
Bromo Arts District Tour
The Bromo Arts District has some exciting and rapid changes happening within. This area has recently received the prestigious distinction of being an arts and entertainment district which is a state designation. This means artists which live and work within its borders are privy to certain tax breaks. There are live/work apts with galleries and pop-up events (some of our tours will be scheduled during these events). There are a variety of murals which are part of larger series throughout the city. We will be able to see work by artists: Michael Owen, Jahru, Jay Coleman, and NEVER 2501. Many of these walls are of very high-caliber but the gentrification of this area is such that it is very likely we will lose many of these walls in the next 5 years. We will also learn of the anchoring arts organizations which have been here for many years, as well as the up and coming newer businesses helping to bring new life to this forgotten area of town. We will begin our journey at the bunshop on read st. BIPOC owned and offering a very unique selection of eats and drinks, as well as its eclectic atmosphere which has gold accents and unforgettable decor. This is one of the only cafes offering Thai tea and vietnamese iced coffee, as well as rotiboys (a malaysian pastry).
