Terreiro do Paço sits right at the place where, hundred of years ago, merchants from all over the world disembarked their goods to be traded throughout Europe. Its unique setting, with one full side opening to the sea, still reminds of its time as the "Old World"'s entrance hall. Now it is a light-filled pedestrian square, hosting all kinds of amusements (even a disco club). From there you can walk on a sideway along the river stretching to Cais do Sodré.

The largest square in Lisbon, one of the most iconic symbols of the city and its rebuilding after the great earthquake of 1755. It offers a very pleasant walk along the river in the late afternoon.
