Known affectionately as Mass Ave, this five-block area is ripe with theaters, restaurants, art galleries, and, most attractively for shoppers, a number of eclectic, independent boutiques. You'll encounter unique finds on each block, from Stout's Shoes (the nation's oldest shoe store, established in 1886), to Silver In The City/At Home In The City (offering silver jewelry and unique gift items), to The Best Chocolate In Town (which is fairly self-descriptive). Venture to the Athenaeum for a stein of German lager in the historic Rathskeller biergarten, try local craft beers at Ralston's Drafthouse, or sip a cocktail at the prohibition-era ball&biscuit. Foodies can indulge in American-modern cuisine at Mesh or take down a platter of tacos at Bakersfield. Take in Indy culture at its finest on Mass Ave, "45 Degrees from Ordinary."

The Mass Ave Cultural Arts District, known as Mass Ave, is one of seven designated cultural districts in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. The district centers on 0.86 miles of its namesake Massachusetts Avenue. Today it lies at the heart of the city's arts district. There is paid street parking, and it can get crowded on the weekends. We are just North of Mass Ave and within a 6-10 min walk to all the action. If you're a foodie, you won't be disappointed. check out Condados Tacos for great food and margs. If you are looking for a pub scene with great food, the Irish Pub is an 8 minute walk. Mesh is a great place with a menu that changes weekly, they have vegan and vegetarian options as well. Livery is more on the pricey side, but this Latin eatery is worth the visit for small bites and great cocktails. It's worth making a reservation to dine in this cool 1890's building- it used to stable horses! There are a number of additional places we could brag on, but there are far too many to recommend. Take a walk down Mass Ave, stop in somewhere new, and you won't be disappointed.
