Gorgeous lake for swimming or hiking around. 12 min drive.

There is a trail running right around Matheson Lake. It’s a good hike. If you take your time it’s a couple of hours. There is a beach for swimming. An island in the middle of the lake is calling for a kayak and a picnic.

Matheson lake is only 20 minutes away and a beautiful lake for swimming or hiking around. Warm lake with child friendly smaller beach, with other spots to enter along the trail, to hike around takes a little over an hour, with some challenging spots.

36 min (33.1 km) via Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 S Similar to Elk Lake, there is nothing you can’t find at this lake. The swimming is sublime and there is a sandy beach to relax on. There is a 3.8km trail which loops around the lake that offers a hike of moderate difficulty (there are some rocky/steep portions along the western portion of the trail). There is also a small island in the middle of the lake that you can float to (or swim to if you’re comfortable doing so).

A good place for a swim. There's a sunny (in the afternoon) sandy beach close to the parking lot, and more secluded places to swim further along the trail. A nice hour long(ish) trail goes around the lake.
