How lucky can one be to have the closest local restaurant to ones home owned and ran by the previous head chef of the Clove Club-Shoreditch Town Hall- voted one of the top 100 restaurants world wide! The quality is there, the service excellent, the food- as you would imagine can rarely be faulted- but the big pus is the bill at the end of the meal. A fraction of what you would have paid had this chef not taken the leap to owing his own small local eatery.

London has many restaurants that might be called ‘American,’ but this new Shoreditch site from The Clove Club is the first that follows the American model of dining pioneered by David Chang, Sara Kramer, Daniela Soto-Innes, and Fabian von Hauske: ingredients from near, inspiration from far. So: chef Chase Lovecky is cooking Cornish thornback ray wing, with a dill pickle butter, end of season courgettes, and crunchy potato scraps, alongside an admittedly modish sardine katsu sandwich. Guinea fowl stuffed with sausage and paired with broccoli and yuzu is in debt to Chang’s Majordomo as much as it is Clove’s own Isaac McHale down the road.
