The Golden Gate is a monument of defense architecture of Kiev Rus recreated in 1982 in Kiev during the reign of Yaroslav the Wise. This ruler surrounded the Upper City with an earthen fence with three gates, the most durable of which turned out to be the Golden Gate, which was the central entrance to the city.
