Local castle overlooking the village. A long time ago it was a defensive protection for the country and its people. Today, Castle Nanstein is the town’s landmark, which owes its popularity to the rebellious chevalier Franz von Sickingen. A glimpse into the spooky vault shows, where he got seriously injured and died in 1523. The castle hill raises 80 meters above the city and offers a wide view over Landstuhl and into the Northern-Palatinate Uplands. In summer, the castle builds together with its grounds the romantic scenery for the castle theater. A self-guided information leaflet in English is available at the castle entrance for the price of € 1.10. You can also rent audioguides

Tour the castle ruins, enjoy a local beer or glass of wine, go trail running or biking, take in the view overlooking Landstuhl (ignore the McD's sign...you'll see!). Burg Nanstein often hosts events like jazz festivals and culinary/beer hikes - if your visit coincides with one of their many events, don't miss it!
