tasmanianartsguide.com.au . Our Original Museum on Wellington Street. QVMAG at Inveresk is our Modern Museum and is within the Victorian Tram Sheds, now becoming our new University of Tasmania. Both are worth visiting and are within our City Limits, walking distance from each other along our City River, the Esk tributary.

The city's first museum, it holds mostly art works. It's sister site is located at Inveresk and has more contemporary exhibitions.

Built in 1891 at Royal Park on Wellington St, stands Australia's largest regional Museum. Now a dedicated art gallery, housing some great collections, including, the colonial artworks of John Glover. There's a great display of Aboriginal artwork and a Chinese/Tasmanian display offering insights into the Chinese influence in Tasmania. The staff are well informed and friendly. Expect to spend some quality time here! Preferable to the Hobart Museum : )
