Built between 1617 and 1626, Mount Fortress was once Macau's primary defense against pirates and attack from the sea, even saving the city from an attempted Dutch invasion. Construction was begun by the Jesuits, with military barracks, wells and a large enough arsenal to withstand up to two years under siege, before being seized by the governor of Macau. Since the 1960s, it has served as a weather observatory and, more recently, as the home of the Macao Museum. 大炮台始建於1617年，至1626年建成，是當時澳門為防範海盜及敵軍的海上攻擊而設的重要軍事設施，更曾成功抵禦荷蘭人入侵。該炮台由耶穌會士修建，工程還包括官兵的營房、儲水池及軍需庫，內藏足以應付長達兩年敵軍包圍的儲備，及至後來由澳門政府接管。自1960年代起，大炮台改建成氣象台，現址已成為澳門博物館。

It forms part of the "Historic Centre of Macau", a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fort was built between 1617 and 1626 on the 52 metre-tall Mount Hill,located directly east of the Ruins of St.Paul's.

澳門重要歷史古蹟，可參觀百年古砲，俯瞰澳門美景，與新葡京大樓合影。大砲台位於大三巴牌坊附近的柿山上，建於1616年，旨在防範荷蘭人和海盜襲擊。 是澳門重要的歷史古蹟之一，在砲台上可以參觀百年古砲和俯瞰澳門美景，還可以同時遊覽旁邊的澳門博物館。 開放時間：炮台及花園 - 上午7時至晚上7時；澳門博物館 - 上午10時至下午6時，最後進館時間為下午5時30分（逢星期一休館，公眾假期照常開放）
