Accessed through the entry gate at the Mauna Kea Resort. You must get one of only 10 parking passes at the gate. It has a private, somewhat secluded feel and has a great beach. About 50 minutes north of Kona town.

MAU’UMAE BEACH – Pretty, secluded, un-crowded during the week and decent swimming when calm. Nice place for a picnic and you may have it to yourself during the week. Snorkeling is only fair due to slightly cloudy water. Access is through the Mauna Kea Resort entrance, right on Kamahoi and don’t be deterred when it starts looking like an entrance to the maintenance yard. Drive past the building and cross two white bridges. Be sure to come back before 5p.m. when they close the gate at the second bridge. Park near pole #22, or farther back up the road in the dirt lot. Less than a 5-minute trail walk from your car. No facilities.

This beach is stunning! Located in the Mauna Kea Beach Resort, you must enter through the guard gate at Mauna Kea. They allow 12 car passes a day... this means... you are not always guaranteed to get it. This really depends on peak seasons, the day of the week, and the time that you arrive to get a beach pass. During the busiest times, EARLY EARLY EARLY! In summer months, I've gotten a pass around 10am with no problem. Just be aware that early bird gets the worm! And boy oh boy is this beach worth it. Small, private, with lovely sand. It is also protected so its great for small children or those wanted a calm, relaxing surf (No bathroom or showers...)

This is, possibly, my favorite beach on the island. Accessed through the Mauna Kea resort gate. Sand bottom, very small. Calm water. Also accessible through Spencer Beach Park with a walk.
