The Matrimandir is an edifice of spiritual significance for practitioners of Integral yoga, in the centre of Auroville established by The Mother of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. It is called soul of the city and is situated in a large open space called Peace. Matrimandir does not belong to any particular religion or sect. Visitors and guests should bear in mind that the Matrimandir is not a ‘tourist’ site; it is a place for individual silent concentration. A place which should be visited in a quiet physical and mental state. Not viewing the Matrimandir in Auroville is like not visiting the Eiffel tower when visiting Paris! The Matrimandir can be viewed as a large golden sphere that seems to be emerging out of the earth, symbolizing the birth of a new consciousness. The sight is dramatic at twilight. Visiting passes to the Matrimandir are available for free from the Visitor's Centre.

Meditation Centre - Worth a visit! booking timings 10-11am/2-3PM (tuesdays closed). Book in person and visit the next day/whenever available.
