Lovely trip. Take the post boat from Balmaha( no booking possible so best go early in busy periods) and in 7 mins you can be on the island. Fairly steep path up from the ferry but after it is easy enough walking around an established path around and across the island. Nice beach for picnics at the top end and toilets available.

Hill House, Helensburgh, Charles Rennie MacIntosh's gem, now owned by National Trust for Scotland and in the process of renovation thus covered by a scaffold but that in itself is interesting as the tour allows access right up the outside of the building. Inside is the gem of design genius that MacIntosh is famous for. Good circular route from Dairy Cottage is across to Luss then over the hills down into Helensburgh and back via Geilston Gardens and Dumbarton Castle.

Interesting to visit here; built well after. Charles Rennie MacIntosh died but to his design on the site of the Great Exhibition. Beautiful interior architecture. Be sure to look at the temporary exhibitions in the garden sheds next to the adjacent walled garden( the original Bellahouston House walled garden).
