KGB (Killer Gourmet Burger) in Bangsar has become my favourite spot for burgers when the craving strikes. To me, the burgers have been fairly consistent in the last 2 years — the patty is made using fresh ground beef with just the right amount of fat so it remains juicy throughout.

This place garnered a bit of debate between rif and myself. He likes the food there on both our brunch visits, while I wasn’t a convert the first time around. Admittedly, they do a good Southern Fried Breakfast which I often crave every now and then. We also love the pan seared slow cooked chicken thigh, with mushroom cream sauce. That is rich, hearty and oh-so-sinful! Service was a miss on both our visits; so go there with that in mind and you won’t be disappointed.

I’ve been going to Devi’s Corner for banana leaf rice in Bangsar over the last 4 years when they first started. They serve a good Kerala fish curry and crab curry, which I love drowning my rice in. Try their mutton masala too — it’s pretty noteworthy.

Yeast offers French cuisine in an unfussy bistro ambiance – black and white tiled floor, gently lit dining room and paper-covered tables. Very laidback feel and hardly intimidating. The menu is confident and straightforward, dotted with classic French bistro fare featuring premium local ingredients.

It features British tavern-like decor, with black-tiled floors, dim lighting, dark wood tables and chairs, and an Old West saloon-style bar. We like the fact that thoroughly efficient staff members keep things running smoothly. Drinks-wise, cocktail choices are limited but you can expect to find house pours and five types of ale on tap: Guinness, Kilkenny, Paulaner, Strongbow and Tiger. The food menu is representative of the pub’s English roots.

Largely resembling a Spanish hacienda, with its bright and colourful interior design, La Bodega Lounge is certainly no stranger in Bangsar’s nightlife scene – after all, it has been around since 1999 along Jalan Telawi 2. Well-liked for its extensive tapas menu and classy ambience, the award-winning bistro continues to draw in a steady stream of loyal regulars.

A vastly different world compared to nearby Bangsar, Brickfields (one of the oldest Indian settlements in the country) is Malaysia’s official Little India. Comprising several streets largely populated with Indian stores and restaurants, they sell everything from traditional Indian goods such as spices and incense, to local delicacies such as vadai, thosai (Indian pancakes made from fermented rice flour) and more. One of the city’s trademark tourist hotspots, it is just a ten-minute walk from KL Sentral station.

Buddhist Maha Vihara is an attractive Brickfields temple, about one km from KL Sentral station. Far away enough from the main streets to provide it with a hushed, soothing ambiance, it serves the area’s Sri Lankan community. Locals call it the Brickfields Buddhist Temple and the rusty-red and powder white shrine is small, but inside it is a walled-in world of high ceilings, prettily ornate fixtures and impressive reclining Buddha statues that makes a trip here worthwhile.

High class, exclusive and expensive are just a few of the words that locals use to describe Bangsar Shopping Centre – a quiet fixture within the affluent Bangsar neighbourhood. Opened in the early ‘90s, it’s been newly-refurbished and though other malls have mushroomed along nearby Jalan Telawi (Bangsar Village I & I), it’s still a favourite with the local residents. Also known as BSC to residents, the mall features over 322,000sqft of retail space and its portfolio of stores includes international brands and high-end boutiques of local designers. A favourite haunt of fu thais (Cantonese for rich married ladies), this mall’s the retail address for the area’s well heeled.
