Cheap and cheerful Italian restaurant. The food is simple but consistently good and very affordable, and the homemade ice cream is amazing! Also, they serve food later than most other restaurants nearby, usually til midnight.

Fantastic Mexican Taqueria in bustling Leith Walk. The food, service and vibe of this place is so cool, and as it's BYOB it's a real bargain! It's tiny and very popular so booking is essential. A wee bit further afield from the flat but worth the trip, especially as there are loads of cool bars in the area for an after-dinner drink.

This cafe right at our front door just recently opened and is run by the lovely Fiona and her partner. Great for coffee, light lunch and delicious cupcakes.

One of my favourite bars in town. The Basement is Mexican-themed and serves great beers and cocktails along with hundreds of tequilas. They have DJs on Friday nights and live music on Sunday nights too. Also the staff are very friendly.

Arthur's Seat is an extinct volcano rising up in the middle of Edinburgh. Climbing to the top of this is one of my favourite things to do on a sunny day. It only takes about half an hour from the bottom beside Holyrood Palace, although it's pretty steep at parts so is a good bit of exercise. The 360 degree view of the city from the top are unbeatable!
