A great local restaurant near the cabin. The menu is diverse and interesting and everything is good. It is the closest restaurant to the cabin and is a local hangout - they are too far off the highway to attract many tourists.

One of the local burger drive-in's. The shakes are fantastic, especially peanut butter, and the onion rings are the best in the area. Nothing wrong with the burgers but also nothing to write home about.

This has been the local go-to spot for breakfast for decades. Huge servings, lots of meat and eggs, health food options are probably a little sparse.

I own it! Obviously I am a little biased, but a trip to Idaho's Oldest Restaurant is always worthwhile. About 30 minutes east of Coeur d'Alene on I-90 on a very scenic drive over 4th of July pass. Live music & prime rib every Friday night and a great BBQ and burger menu 7 days a week. If you are really brave try our specialty, the infamous Rocky Mountain Oysters. Could be part of a longer scenic drive up to Thompson pass, down to Thompson Falls and west to Sandpoint, or a trip to Wallace to tour a mine or the Cataldo Mission, an old Jesuit mission and the oldest standing building in Idaho.

I'm biased as the owner is a friend of mine but they have won awards for the best pizza in town several years in a row. Trendy wood-oven pizza with toppings from basic to gourmet. If you are brave ask for the 'Tommy-Boy,' a pizza on the secret menu covered with smoked oysters! (I am 'Tommy Boy,' the owner added the pizza for me as the cool pizza place in town when I was in high school used to serve smoked oyster pizza.)

This is the local-favorite steak house. Well-seasoned hand-cut steaks cooked over a wood fire pit which is visible from the dining room. Great atmosphere. Not much on the menu if you don't like steak or salmon.

Wood oven pizza. I prefer Fire, my wife thinks this place's crust is better. We enjoy both places. Small wine-bar atmosphere, occasional quiet live music. I recommend the meatballs and the salads.

First off, this is a brutal hike and the trailhead is almost a 2-hour drive from the cabin. We try to do it once a year and I plan on being sore for several days afterwards. It offers one of the most spectacular views in all of Idaho of lakes & mountains, and there are mountain goats at the summit who will usually pose for pictures. If you are up for a long, stiff hike this one is worth it.

This is truly a world-class bike trail. A 73-mile paved rails-to-trails path follows the Coeur d'Alene river then crosses Coeur d'Alene lake on an old railroad bridge to take you into Heyburn State Park. I don't think I could oversell this trail for scenic beauty, well-maintained pavement, wildlife and getting away from roads. Airbnb will only let me mark the map at either end of the trail, but the prettiest short section is between Cataldo and Enaville off of I-90 about 30 minutes east of Coeur d'Alene. Plan ahead - there are long stretches of the trail with no stores or restaurants, and a lot of the businesses in Harrison close during the off-season.

Sightseeing

The Cataldo Mission is a Jesuit mission built in the 1840's and the oldest standing building in Idaho. If you are a history buff there is a great exhibit titled 'Sacred Encounters' on the first meetings between the local Indians and the Jesuit missionaries. Call the mission to confirm that the exhibit is still open. The mission sits in a small state park on the Coeur d'Alene River, and the drive from the cabin to the mission is very scenic.
