Food scene

A modern, industrial vibe for pizza and house-brewed craft beers. I’m not much of a beer drinker but people say they have an amazing selection of delicious beer. Friendly and efficient service.

A lovely coffee bar just exploding with plants. Delicious custom coffee and baked goods. Some lunch menu items. I love it as a nice little place for a break just a few steps away from the condo.

If you’re a super serious coffee affecionado (not a Tim Horton’s fan!) this place is for you. It’s like a wine bar for coffee. While serious, they are friendly and the bar area has a very modern vibe.

You may be in an emerging neighbourhood but you’d never know it by some of the shops and restaurants. Les Amis du Fromage (The Friends of Cheese) is no exception. If you’ve just arrived and want something quick and easy to prepare for dinner, head over to LADF. The selection of cheese is as you would expect it, abundant, eclectic, something for you! There are cured meats as well. Pastas and sauces. Gourmet frozen dinners. And honestly the prices aren’t over the top. Oh! … if you’ve forgotten to get a few gifts to take home, you will find lovely stuff for foodies; local hand crafted goods, etc…One of my fave places in Strathcona

When I first heard about this bakery it was in glowing terms. They opened a location near Strathcona VIllage. Next door to Les Amis du Fromage! Perfect pairing for amazing cheeses with yummy bread. I initially gasped at the price of the bread. Okay I’m a boomer who thinks bread is a staple, but what I’ve learned is that bread can be raised to an art form. Enter “The Flourist”. Locally sourced ingredients, etc… If you don’t want to spend $12CDN for a loaf of bread (unsliced… they don’t slice) I wouldn’t blame you, but you’ll be missing “an experience”…

There are some weird and wonderful places in Chinatown for restaurants, green grocers, butchers, tea, you name it. It has an authentic vibe and is a great place to get a wide range of food experiences from the inexpensive to the exclusive. Always good for fresh produce.
