An extensive network of multi use trails that are enjoyable year round. If you are wanting to see some bald Eagle, this is the place to go. Take the trail that follows the fence line and keep an eye in the trees. There will likely be dozens of them. Mainly because the landfill is nearby, but that’s a trick to seeing them up here, find the landfills and you’ll find the bald eagles!

Would you like to learn the difference in a caribou and a reindeer? How about immersing yourself into a herd of reindeer? Or maybe you have had a lifelong dream of kissing a moose. These are all possible at the Reindeer Farm located about 15 minutes from Glacier Breeze. And in case you are wondering, yes, we have indeed kissed a moose. It's quite lovely.

While you may be able to see wildlife galore while you drive around Alaska, paying a visit to the musk ox farm will most likely be the only chance you get to see one of Alaska's masters of the cold. In the wild they stay far out in the tundra where it takes a lot of effort to see them. Here in Palmer, you can see them though with a walk through the farm where the workers will teach you all sorts of interesting facts about them. You can even buy products made from their hair.

Great Eats Drinks

Local places to eat and grab a brew that we love to visit ourselves.
If you are in the mood for a burger, skip all the fast food joints in town and stop here on the way to Glacier Breeze. These are real burgers. The kind where you need to tuck a napkin in your shirt. The kind where you have to actually think of a plan of attack because its not just some little patty on squished bun. These are fresh cooked juicy goodness that are available in a variety of concoctions that are hard to decide which to try. We guarantee they are the best burger in Butte!

Matanuska Brewery is our favorite place in the valley for a burger and a brew. The beer selection that is made locally by them is long and the even the burgers are made from local sourced beef that is fed the byproducts of the beer they make. They have some great seats outside in the igloos so that even on the chilly nights you can sit outside comfortably.

This is our go to stop after some time hiking somewhere like Hatcher Pass for a nice hot bowl of the soup of the day and hunk of fresh baked bread. A hot cup of coffee goes wraps it all up nicely. And we can never seem to get out of the door without a big snicker doodle cookie.

Pyrah's is a little different than the other places to eat. You won't get a meal brought to you here, you won't even be ordering at a window. Nope, you will be heading out into the fields and picking your own groceries! Depending on the time of year, you can pick a wide variety of fruits and veggies here to cook up some dinner with back at the cabin. You'll be surprised at what fresh produce you can pick here in Alaska!

It may seem odd, but ice cream is really popular here in Alaska. Even in the depths of winters grasp there will be a line for some. We think it’s the body’s way of saying it needs some vitamin d. Big Dipper is the best hookup around for a couple of scoops of homemade frozen goodness. They also have days that you can also order a fresh hot Belgian waffle to go with your favorite ice cream. And the combined smell of fresh waffles and waffle cones, yea it’s as nice as you are thinking!

Only two miles from the cabin at the end of Knik River Rd, the Ravens Perch is a must try place. The food is excellent, the caribou medallions are highly recommended, much of the menu is locally sourced. The views are like no other you find at a restaurant even in AK and its a great place for a meal before or after a helicopter ride to the Knik Glacier as they take off from just in front of the building. The only bad thing is that they are seasonal and run between sometime around mid April to September or so.
