Great place to visit close by. Got its name from the wind currents that rip up the face of the mountain. Legend has it that at times, if a person were to jump from the edge, the wind would blow you back up. I'm not going to be the one to test that theory.

If you've not been to the Blueridge Parkway, you simply have to go. It's only 30 minutes from the resort, and the views alongside the top of the mountain are awe inspiring.

A 1.5-mile roundtrip hike takes you to the beautiful Crab Orchard Falls waterfall in Valle Crucis, just 9 miles from Sugar Mountain. While the trail is short, it has some steep sections. The trail is well-maintained, so it’s great for most fitness levels and kids. It’s on private property at the Valle Crucis Conference Center, but they welcome waterfall hunters and have a parking area at the trailhead.
