Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal water garden are only a 5 minute drive away from the cottage. The abbey is a well preserved English Cistercian monastery. It was founded in 1132 and was one of the wealthiest monasteries in England until its dissolution in 1539 under Henry VIII. Currently owned by the National Trust, a day out here can be enjoyed by people of all ages. There are three cafes, an amazing play park, two gift shops and a bird hide. During school holidays many child friendly activities are also available

Within the park you can also visit St Mary's Church. The Victorian Gothic church is a masterpiece of architect William Burges.
You can also enjoy tea, cakes and lunch at the café beside the lake.

Studley Royal Deer Park is a five minute drive from the cottage or an easy 20 minute walk. It is free to access and is home to over 500 wild Red, Fallow and Sika deer. A popular destination for walkers and photographers - especially during rutting season.
Within the park you can also visit St Mary's Church. The Victorian Gothic church is a masterpiece of architect William Burges.
You can also enjoy tea, cakes and lunch at the café beside the lake.

Newby Hall is a Grade I listed 18th century country house 10 minutes drive from the cottage. It is open daily from April to October. Please note in 2020 Newby Hall will be closed from 14th to 17th September to prepare for Autumn Flower show. They will then be open to flower show ticket holders only from 18th September until 20th September.
Visitors can enjoy looking around the house, walking through the extensive beautiful gardens and enjoying the large children's play area (sand pit, younger children's swings and climbing frame, lake with little boats and older children's wooden play equipment). Children also enjoy the dancing water play area by William Eye - take a towel! There is also a little train which is a great way of seeing the beautiful grounds - a firm favourite with children and adults of all ages. There is a Bear House showcasing the wonderful Teddy Bear collection of Gyles Brandreth. Lots of famous bears to see.
The restaurant at Newby Hall offers a wide range of refreshments from cakes to delicious hot meals. You are also welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy in the picnic area.
