Visitor's Centre Kennemerduinen combines a nice playground where kids can play with sand and water (bring extra clothes or swimming gear!) with excellent coffee and the best banana bread and carrot cake of the region! Also recommended for lunch.
The free exhibition in the visitors’ centre shows the various dune zones, plants and animals that live here. Children learn about nature playfully with, for example, the bird tree with tasks and bird sounds. There is a water playground outdoor – fun for the little ones.
The visitors centre has several games and treasure hunts to experience the dunes in a playful way. Excursions and activities for children are organised regularly in the park. These can be found in the activity calendar. Come and take a look at one of the many events, which provide fun for all ages!

And where better to do that than in the largest playground in Europe? At Linnaeushof you’ll find over 350 pieces of play equipment and attractions, all aimed at active entertainment. This means you’re using your own energy. So stay on the move! And anyone who thinks that playing in an outdoor playground is only for children is wrong, at Linnaeushof adults play along with them!
Most attractions in Linnaeushof are outside. When the weather is good, you can play in the open air. The large selection of playground equipment is divided into seperate playing areas for small and large children.
In the separated and clearly visible toddler playground you can play to your heart’s content on the many swinging, revolving and climbing equipment. In addition to a large sandpit, there’s also an educational traffic garden and a bounce house in the shape of a fairy tale castle with a drawbridge.
The toddler playground has only one entrance and exit, which enables good oversight and allows for close monitoring of the youngest children.
On a sunny day, we can recommend the water playground at the Linnaeushof. Not a swimming pool, but a real water playground where you can actively play with everything that has water coming out and getting in! The splashes will catch you from all sides. Choose one of the water slides or do you dare to stand under a huge bucket that will empty itself at unexpected times? Turn the different taps to choose from which pipes the water will flow. The water playground offers a refreshing way to cool down during the warm summer days. With large palm trees and life-size dromedaries all around, you really feel like you are in an oasis.

Sometimes when the western wind is a bit chilly at the beach, you can go swimming in dune lake Het Wed instead. Enclosed by dunes, the wind is less severe. For kids it's ideal, because there is a lot of shallow water they can play in. It's clearly marked where the water gets deeper.

Sometimes when the western wind is a bit chilly at the beach, you can go swimming in dune lake Het Wed instead. Enclosed by dunes, the wind is less severe. For kids it's ideal, because there is a lot of shallow water they can play in. It's clearly marked where the water gets deeper.
When after a day at the beach you don't feel like cooking, make a pit stop at Gestrand! It's a restaurant at the campsite De Lakens that oversees a great playground with tunnels, slides and a zip line. In the restaurant your kid can sit at the bar on a swing, how much fun is that? If the weather is bad: they also have an indoor playground.

It's a restaurant at the campsite De Lakens that oversees a great playground with tunnels, slides and a zip line. In the restaurant your kid can sit at the bar on a swing, how much fun is that? There is a lovely Kabouterpad (gnome trail) here that wonders around the ruins of yet another castle. Every gnome has a special assignment for the kids, in Dutch, but Google Translate will probably be willing to help you out ;-)

People lived in Haarlem and the surrounding area as long as 5600 years ago. In order to learn more about these early settlers, archaeologists excavate looking for evidence of past occupation. Excavations take place all over Haarlem and the surrounding area using archaeology to provide invaluable information regarding the town’s past.
Finds made on the excavations allow the Haarlem Archaeological Museum to give a brief insight into the town’s history. You will find our permanent collection on the left-hand side of the museum, and our temporary displays to your right (these rotate twice a year).
Meet Cornelis our medieval inhabitant
And don’t forget to ‘meet’ our medieval inhabitant: Cornelis. He’s skeleton lays in our museum, he is one of many found at an excavation at the Botermarkt. From his skeleton a reconstruction has been made: Cornelis. Learn all about him and take a selfie with him!
