Nabolag

This is a nice area to have a stroll. About 1 minute walk to the left, when you leave the house, you will enter the botanical garden. There is two sun-chairs / deck chairs in the room next to the bathroom that you can borrow if you want. Its a nice place to relax when the sun is shining. If you walk to the right when you leave the house, you will reach a nice park (Nygårdsparken) after 2 minutes. And if you want to swim - you can continue through the park to the city beach (Bystranden). I often go there for a swim in the summer. There are many grocery stores nearby - the closest one is Rema1000 just straight down the hill towards Grieghallen - 3 minutes walk. Fast food places, restaurants and bars are within a 5 minute walk from the house. There is a 7 eleven about 5 minute walk - close to the church called Saint Paul.

Nature is also close. From the living room you can see the mountain called Fløien. Its a nice hike and it takes approximately 1,5 hours from the apartment to the top of Fløien. Walk through the city center to Fløibanen, keep on walking straight uphill and you can follow easy roads and paths that lead you straight to the mountain top and further on to the mountain platou. All the mountains in the Bergen area are very popular to walk on, with nice paths for both grown-ups and kids. Much recommend. On the top you will find a restaurant and other places where you can buy food and drink.

At Nordnes you will find the Nordnes Sjøbad. Here they have a heated saltwater pool and you can swim and dive into the ocean. I love this place and it is only a 20 minute walk through Nordnes - one of Bergens nicer areas.

Our most famous citizen, maybe except for, Röyksopp and Ylvis - who made “What does the fox say?”, is the composer Edvard Grieg. You should listen to some of his classical pieces while you are here. You will recognize the music instantly. Especially the Peer Gynt suites. And maybe visit his home, which is now a museum called Troldhaugen. They often have nice concerts at Troldhaugen - so check out www.visitbergen.com to see if there are any concerts while you are in town.

The square in Bergen, consisting of Rundetårnet in the east to west of Frukttorget, Fisketorget and Blomstertorget, is a square in the heart of Vågen where there is a marketplace with stalls for selling fish, shellfish, berries, fruit and flowers in addition to souvenirs. It has a large influx of tourists, especially in summer.

Bryggen is one of Bergen's and Norway's main attractions. Bryggen was built after the great fire in 1702 and is included on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The very first buildings in Bergen were situated at Bryggen, which has been a vibrant and important area of the city for many centuries. Bryggen has been ravaged by many fires, the great fire of 1702 in particular. It reduced the whole of the city to ashes. The area was rebuilt on the foundations that had been there since the 12th century, which means that Bryggen is basically unchanged despite the passing centuries. Bryggen is now part of our common heritage and has a place on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, and the city of Bergen is a designated World Heritage City. The world heritage site consists of the old Hanseatic wharf and buildings, and one of the best known urban areas from the Middle Ages in all of Norway. In 1360, the German Hanseatic League set up one of its import and export offices at Bryggen, dominating trade for almost 400 years. To stroll through the narrow alleyways and overhanging galleries is to step back into the mists of time and a bygone era. Bryggen is very much a living part of the cultural heritage that is still in active use in this historical area of the city. Today, there are several attractions in the area, from the Fish Market to Bergenhus Fortress and there are many cafés, restaurants and shops to choose from. Many of the shops sell traditional and unique crafts.
