Neighborhoods

This is our local neighborhood - the house is right in the heart of Fell's Point. It's known for the live music, waterfront views, as well as its many pubs and taverns. In this neighborhood, you'll have local ice cream shops to old saloons, and boutiques. You can wander the cobblestone streets, walk along the water, and even check out the farmers market on Saturdays. The famous historic Sagamore Pendry hotel is right around the corner from 1809, as well. It is worth a visit. The area also holds many festivals and activities throughout the year, so definitely check those out depending on when you're here. Some of the best places to eat, drink, explore: Thames Street Oyster House, Barcocina for the patio, Ale Mary's (our neighborhood Tavern), Penny Black bar, Liquid Earth (vegan cafe), Nanami for sushi, Johnny Rad's for an easy pizza dinner, Kippo Ramen, The Bygone (rooftop bar at the Four Seasons hotel). There is a lot more to enjoy throughout the city's different neighborhoods. Check out this guide for more.

Canton and Brewers Hill are both local favorite neighborhoods, about 12 and 25 minute walk respectively (and very easy uber/lyft rides). You'll find Patterson Park (a large green space in the middle of the city, with ponds, picnic tables, benches, so forth), and the Canton Waterfront Park for more harbor views. These 2 neighborhoods have some of my favorite restaurants: Pho Bac for vietnamese, Ni Hao for chinese, Gunther and Co. for delicious "modern american", Of Love & Regrets for great cocktails, and Annabel Lee Tavern (an Edgar Allen Poe themed comfort food).

This is in North Baltimore and is the heart of the artsy crowd with specialty shops, pubs, bars, breweries. This neighborhood is full of character - the main drag of 36th Street (worth it to just wander up and down!) is home to many street festivals down the Avenue.

By walking along the water from 1809, you'll end up in the Inner Harbor and Harbor East neighborhoods (about 15 minutes, but even quicker if you take the main street). Inner Harbor is the place for sightseeing where you have: Maryland Science Center with a planetarium and observatory, and the National Aquarium. The Top of the World Observation Level offers beautiful views of the city - you'll also see a collection of historic warships is docked below. Power Plant Live! is a complex of bars, eateries and music venues in a former power station. Harbor East has several high-end shops and local boutiques, upscale restaurants like Charleston, and several hotels including the Four Seasons Baltimore, which has one of the city’s best rooftop bars. History buffs will want to check out the Baltimore Civil War Museum at President Street Station, which is the oldest railroad station in an urban environment. The museum explores the city's role in the Civil War and its connections to the Underground Railroad. Nearby is Harbor Point, which is currently being developed into 27 acres of mixed-use space including waterfront parks. The Sandlot is a summertime "beach" with volleyball.

Federal Hill is home to my favorite park in the city - it's got fantastic views of the Baltimore Inner Harbor and the neighborhood has a lot of creative eateries (lots of sushi, Japanese, thai, Middle Eastern spots!) and shops to check out.

Sagamore Spirit distillery offers tours and interactive exhibits that highlight Maryland’s history of rye whiskey production. The massive waterfront complex shows how whiskey is made, showcasing the fermenters, bottling process and 40-foot tall mirrored copper whiskey still. 20 minute drive or a hope over the Harbor on the Water Taxi.

This will take you across and back from various spotting points on the Harbor. The fee is around $2-3, but the better secret is the: the Harbor connector (free! less spotting points than the water taxi, but some overlap and you'll still be able to enjoy a ride on the water and see new areas).

The central plaza in Baltimore’s cultural center, Mount Vernon Place is home to the Washington Monument. Climb the 227 marble steps to be rewarded with a stunning view of the neighborhood’s elegant 19th and 20th century rowhomes built in Beaux Arts, Greek Revival and Italianate styles. The square also makes a good launching point for exploring the Mount Vernon neighborhood, which contains many architectural marvels: a Norman-Gothic church, the Palazzo-style Walters Art Museum and the George Peabody Library. In the summer, the surrounding parks hold outdoor events for the whole family to enjoy.
