Tygart River Moats falls

The cover photo is Moats falls on the Tygart River Tygart River- Leave the bottom of the driveway and turn right go about 100 yards and at the T intersection turn left onto the gravel road, at the fork bear to the right and follow Laurel Creek down to the Tygart River, the road will end at the river it’s about 2.3 miles. Please be considerate when passing houses and drive slowly. There are rules about parking near the river and it’s best if you can park on Laurel Creek road just before the Arden Road. Moats Falls is downstream (turn right) about 1.5 miles.

Wells Falls local Hike

Wells Falls Hike- You can drive to the end of the Arden Road past Moats Falls and park at the intersection where there is a large concrete bridge. In front of you will be a creek, this is Teter Creek. When it’s warm or not so warm and the water is not too high you can cross this creek (yes you have to walk in the water, so take off your shoes, or sometimes it’s low enough to jump) and hike down the old railroad grade next to the river to the fantastic Well’s Falls, it’s not a huge waterfall but a very impressive rapid. On the way are also some neat things to see with cliffs and smaller fall
