Sightseeing
The impressive cave of Zeus, the Diktaean Cave, is located at Psychro, in Lassithi Plateau, at an altitude of 1025m.
The route to the cave is magnificent as the view to the Lassithi Plateau is breathtaking. If you do not want to walk, there are donkeys to transfer visitors to the cave. Near the entrance of the cave there is a kiosk where you can buy tickets for a small price. The cave, which has an area of 2200 sq.m, is well lit and the paths in it come along a well-designed path of 250m length.

Cueva de Zeus

The wonderful Lassithi Plateau is located in a peaceful and fertile region, it is surrounded by the wild mountains of Dikti and several smaller plateaus. The views of the surrounding mountains of Selena and Afendis Hristos are majestic.
The altitude ranges from 800 to 850m, making Lassithi one of the few residential areas in the Mediterranean at such high altitude. Indeed, every year the plateau is covered by snow and then thousands of Cretans arrive to admire the white landscape. In most years, snow remains in the mountain peaks till mid-spring.
The 18 villages of the plateau are built at the foot of the surrounding mountains, leaving the plains free to cultivate.

Lasithi Plateau

Only the northern part of the plateau, measuring about 300,000 square metres, is composed of cultivatable soil. Fruit trees flourish on Limnakaro, especially apple and pear (particularly the delicious winter pears). The walnuts of Limnakaro are famous for not being hollow.

It is reported by all the major ancient historians. According to the references, it was the oldest city of Crete, very well organized and built, and was the point where the parents of Rhea advised her to go and give birth to Zeus.
You will see there two ancient Orthodox Churches.
You can go there and enjoy the dawn.
