This is one of the lovliest gardens, if not the lovliest in Barbados. Feel free to meander, take in the fruit trees, the beautiful flowers and lush plants. There are lovely little features dotted throughout and benches tucked away that you can just sit, relax and enjoy a book or just find a spot to toss a blanket and have a picnic.

If you are a hiker, this is s must see. The trail is short if you take it from chalky mount and not too physically demanding and the views are lovely. You will get to see a side of Barbados you have never seen before. The highlight of this trail is the hole that you can sit or stand in that overlooks the east coast. The views from in the hole are like none other.

You are driven through the cave on a secure tram with a tour guide who gives you all the history of this beautiful cave. Along the way there are points where you can get off to take photos. It is a lovely experience that all visitors to Barbados should see.

Codrington College is a lovely place to visit. The historic building houses an active school of theology and had lovely views of the East Coast. It also has a lovely pond filled with ducks and fish (so take some bread along) and another highlight is the lovely palm trees lining either side of the long road as you drive into the property. Great place to relax, take photos, feed the fish and enjoy nature.

If you are a lover of historical sights, St. Nicholas Abbey is the place to visit. This plantation house has so much to offer, learn history of the plantation and Barbados, purchase rum that has been aged to perfection, see sugar gane ground live and there you will find the only train on island as part of the attraction! So you can take a ride.

Farley Hill is a beautiful tranquil park where you can relax and enjoy stunning views of the Barbados' east coast. It is home to a majestic plantation house which is now in ruins but is beautiful. Bathsheba is a lovely stretch of beach on the East coast of Barbados. It is a lovely little coastal village dotted with local houses, guest houses and restaurants. You will find the "soup bowl" there where surfers go to catch the best waves. The feature of Bathsheba is the large peices of rocks in the rugged Atlantic Ocean, very nice for getting lovely photos. While it is not generally safe to bathe there, if you go at low tide, there are some lovely shallow pools to bathe in. Especially the beach right below the Round House Restaurant.

I just love pebbles beach. White powdery sand, lovely tranquil waters are just the beginning. You can also rent a Kayak or paddle board and enjoy a lovely sunset. There is a guy on the beach that makes fresh fish cutters to order and if you go early in the morning they bathe the horses in the water.

One of the hottest new eating spots on the island. The Local is ideally situated on the beachside in the lovely and historic Speightstown. The restaurant heavily supports local and regional farmers, which is great. Lovely place to check out, even lovlier place to watch the sunset! And the food seems to be getting rave reviews.

Oistins Fish Fry is the place to be on Friday and Saturday nights in Barbados. But only if you like crowds. It is usually packed with tourists and locals dining at numerous open air restaurants which serve mainly grilled fish and seafood with local starches and salads. Friday's are the busiest night so if you prefer more personal space try Saturday. It is an experience in itself as they are usually live performances on stage, kareoke, music and dancing. Along the coast behind the stage you can also purchase local arts and crafts from vendors. Pat's Place is where I usually dine (located two stalls away from the stage directly on the roadside). But feel free to try any stall. Sit eat, have some beers, sing Kareoke, and people watch. You are sure to have a good time!

Limegrove is located in Holetown which is a 10 minute drive from our home. It is filled with restaurants, designer shops, ice-cream parlours, cafes, bars and even a high end cinema where your food can be delivered to you as your lounge and watch your movie. It is also a good place to sit, relax on the number of benches dotted around. You may even be lucky enough to enjoy a live performance. While you are there see if you find "Marge".

Holetown is a small town located about 10 minutes from our home. It was the site of the first British landing in Barbados in 1625 and the first settlement by the British two years later. The town is dotted with, restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, banks, shopping malls, bars, a gas station, historic churches. If you are into nightlife scene, check out 1st and 2nd street. If you like snorkeling or want to do a glass bottom boat ride check out Folkstone Marine Park. One of my favorite beaches in that area is behind Colony Club Hotel.

Hastings is a small village on the south-western coast in the parish of Christ Church. It is dotted with hotels, restaurants, shopping malls and has beautiful sandy beaches. Barbados' largest boardwalk, Richard Hayes boardwalk currently starts from here and runs straight to the nearby town in Rockley. Speightstown is a small quaint town to the North of Barbados. Once a bustling town used to bring shipments into Barbados, it is now a hub that locals use to commute to mainly villages in the North and East of the island, Bridgetown and Oistins. Still, it has a few hidden gems by way of restaurants that may be worth checking out. It also has an art gallery, a museum and shops that sell local souvenirs. Vendors selling local fruits and vegetables can also be found on Queens street and there is also a gas station and supermarkets and a bus terminal.

Consejos para la ciudad

Hire a Car in Advance!

I always tell my guests, it's better rent a car. The truth is, the best way to see the island, even if you are staying on a reliable bus route, is by hiring a car. Barbados is a pretty safe destination and you can see more hidden gems and explore much more if you have your own wheels. If money is the obstacle, and you came here for the adventure and not the cuisine, i usually recommend packing your car with food, drinks and snacks instead of eating out. I have had quite a few guests thank me for that advice. So, rent your car before you come, especially for peak periods like Dec - April.

Wearing camouflage is illegal

Just a little tip for when you are packing. Bring all the floral, stripes and polka dot clothing you can pack, but wearing camouflage is against the law.

Book Restaurants from Home!

If you are really want to get seats at some of the more popular fine dining restaurants, especially around Christmas or New Years Eve, it may be best to book several weeks in advance. I have had guests who were very sad that they could not get one single fine dining restaurant booked while they were here as some places we booked solid well into January. So to be safe, especially in the peak season (Dec - Apr), it may be best to secure your seats from home.

Puddin' and Souse Saturday!

A local tradition in Barbados is Pudding and Souse. It is a dish which comprises of picked pork, pudding made mainly of grated sweet potato and is usually served with Breadfruit. On Saturdays several places sell Pudding and Souse and you may see signs up as you move around. Tip: Pork peices in the souse may include the pig's snout, tongue and ear. If you are not into pig features, then ask for "lean meat" and you will get more clean cuts of meat. Whether you get features or lean meat, you are sure to enjoy!

Sunday is Beach Day!

The day that most locals go to the beach during the week is on Sunday. Some beaches can get quite crowded like Brandon's beach, Browne's Beach and Miami Beach. Some locals take picnic baskets, play music, play sports like cricket and football. If that is something you would love to be apart of, then check it out. However, if you prefer a more peaceful beach day you may need to avoid going on Sundays.

Leave your shoes at the door!

In most bajan homes, the wearing of shoes indoors is forbidden. So if someone invites you to their home, please remove your shoes at the door unless they tell you it's ok to leave them on.
