Melville Koppies is a Nature Reserve and a Johannesburg City Heritage Site. Its geology goes back three billion years. The vegetation of the Koppies is entirely indigenous and is a bird haven. Only a 7min drive away, Emmarentia Park has two major attractions for visitors. The Johannesburg Botanic Gardens, and Emmarentia Dam set within a large tranquil park.
The park is made up of large expanses of open lawn ideal for picnics, as well as forestry areas with walking, running and cycling routes.
Several dams make up Emmarentia Dam. You can see dogs happily swimming and playing in the small dams, whilst the main dam is used by canoeists and windsurfers for training and relaxation.
The dams and green areas attract a wide variety of bird life including bishops and weavers.
