Reservations highly recommended. The bar is a great place to get a martini and chat up locals and visitors alike. Interior by noteworthy designer Alexander Girard, and Tom Ford has a favorite table there. Don't miss the onion rings. Indoor and outdoor seating. Walkable from the casita but a bit of a hill on the way back.

Approachable, funky scene with occasional live music. Decent BBQ (I always get the chicken fried steak). Try a Lava Lamp, which is a combo of beer and a frozen margarita. If you need a break from all the amazing New Mexican food, or even if you don't, you should eat here. I always get the lamb curry, and they do have a green chile cheese dosa (which we also always get) so you don't have to skip the regional flavors entirely. Some may call this "elevated" Indian, meaning there's an emphasis on high quality ingredients and tasteful aesthetics, and it's a little pricey.

We really like this restaurant (it's also a wine shop). Really nice hike that is technically walkable from the casita (along the river) but you may prefer to drive. Google won't tell you this, but we access the hike from Upper Canyon Road, just to the right of the house at number 1500. Really picturesque old church along the High Road to Taos, and about 37 mins away by car from the casita. Famous around the world as a pilgrimage site for Catholics, who come to sample some of the church's healing dirt, which you're allowed to gather from a hole in a back room. There's also a pretty good (I'm told) restaurant nearby, Rancho de Chimayo, so you can make an afternoon of it.
This place comes highly recommended by my riding friends for horseback riding jaunts into the hills south of town.

Spas

People will generally ask if you went here on your visit to Santa Fe, so you might want to make a reservation for a treatment or soak. It's just up the road from the casita. The restaurant is also very good (as noted elsewhere in this guidebook).

This used to be called Sunrise Springs but now it's known as Ojo Santa Fe. It's another popular spa in town -- I haven't been there, but people seem to like it.

Really nice, recently renovated spa with various types of pools, including a mud bath. It's a bit of a drive north of town, but it's a very scenic one. It's cheaper and less crowded on weekdays (aside from Friday), FYI.
