Great place to view both the city and the ocean! See the ships entering the narrows, hike the awe-inspiring trail, and grab an ice cream!

Food scene

The city has much of this area closed to vehicular traffic during the summertime, turning it into what they call a Pedestrian Mall. On warm days, it’s bustling; an excellent spot for people-watching or enjoying a cold drink on one of the many patios! There’s also a wide range of shops and services.

On nice mornings, you can walk to the top of Lime Street and turn right, then walk to Harvey Road for a delicious pastry and coffee at Levain. There’s also a Tim Hortons across the street if that’s more your pace. We’ve heard wonderful things about the Nook & Cannery restaurant (lunch/supper), but haven’t had a chance to try it yet ourselves.

Culture

My husband and I love to visit The Rooms often because they frequently feature new art exhibitions, and the restaurant has a beautiful view of the harbour. It’s also a lovely way to learn more about Newfoundland and Labrador.

If you want to experience St. John’s nightlife, you really only need to walk down the hill to George Street. The entire street has only bars, pubs and clubs. There’s something there for everyone, but we love dancing to traditional Irish-Newfoundland music at O’Reilly’s, and we recommend that tourists get “Screeched In” at Christian’s.
