Dalwhinnie Distillery is home to a famous Highland Single Malt Whisky renowned for its gentle flavours accentuated with notes of heather honey, citrus, vanilla and sweet malt.
The site of the distillery was chosen for its access to clear spring water and abundant peat from the surrounding bogs. Set in splendid mountain scenery at the heart of the Cairngorm National Park, Dalwhinnie is the highest distillery in Scotland at 1164 feet above sea level. The name Dalwhinnie is derived from the Gaelic language, meaning ‘meeting place’, referring to the meeting of ancient cattle drovers' routes through the mountains.

This can be followed by a delicious pan fried fillet of Seabass served with sautéed new potatoes, seasonal greens and a pink Peppercorn & lemon dressing or Breast of Farmhouse chicken with a sundried tomato, roast pepper and chorizo risotto finished with basil oil. You can also enjoy a steak from our char-grill menu. The meat has been aged for 28 days.
We are proud members of the Scotch Beef club and all our venison comes from Glenfinnan Estate.
Duncan’s classic French training shines through in his dishes. He particularly enjoys creating specialty signature dishes using local produce such as Venison, wild mushrooms, scallops, langoustines and fish from the local fishmonger.
Desserts have a unique quality and style about them: Homemade Sticky Toffee Pudding with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream or a trio of chocolate desserts. If you prefer something savoury, then there’s a fine choice of Scottish Cheese.
Later enjoy a dram or coffee in the Drawing room, hall or the cosy bar.

Sightseeing
This amazing feat of engineering raises the canal by 19m (62ft) over a quarter of a mile of continuous masonry and takes around 90 minutes for a boat to travel up or down the locks. Built by Thomas Telford between 1803 and 1822, it is the longest staircase lock in Scotland. An ideal location for enjoy ‘gongoozling’ the boats as they travel up and down the lock flight!
A perfect spot for relaxing and enjoying the country, it also has plenty to offer anyone looking for more adventure. Part of the Great Glen Way route, it has plenty of walking and cycling paths. Hire a bike from Rockhopper Hire Hub and explore the traffic-free towpaths, or take to the sheltered waters of the canal in a canoe or kayak.
If you want to go further afield, the West Highland train line stops in Banavie. It’ll take you anywhere you’d like to go between Fort William and Mallaig. With views of the Great Glen at every turn, it beats any other commute in the country hands down. Starting from Fort William, you could even take a journey on the ‘Hogwarts Express’ – also known as the Jacobite Steam Train. It’s a magical journey whether or not you’re a Harry Potter fan.

For Clay Pigeon shooting, I would suggest that they make a day trip to include clay pigeon shooting and visit the shooting ground at Rothiemurchus. There are many other nice things to do around Aviemore and good places for lunch. They can hire shotguns and an instructor no problem. This is 1.30hrs drive time.
