The place to go for dog walking. Kids enjoy it too.
The dunes are a firm favorite with locals and visitors. We have been walking our dogs here 3 times a week during lockdown.
A nice morning (or afternoon) excursion would be to walk there along the beach from the cottages 3-4 miles. Do the circular "Dunes" walk. Catch a coffee and a cake from "poppies" in the village and get the local bus back.

This app is invaluable for deciding the best times to visit the beach during your stay. Search for Caister-On-Sea as it is the nearest beach listed to California.
Ideal time is 2 Hours before and 2 Hours after a low tide. The beach is always accessible even at high water. Just more sand for the kids and pools at low water.

The local bus is a good way to get to many local attractions. The bus stops (going and coming) are only 400yds from the cottages. From there you can get to Great Yarmouth, Norwich, and Pleasure wood hills. They are great value too. Their High 5 ticket Costal zone or Explorer Zone (gets you to Norwich) cost £10 and £12 respectively for 2 adults and 3 children. Unlimited travel for a day. Visit the website for timetables and details of routes.
