Food scene

Book ahead, bring tupperwear, and don't be late! If you are out exploring, south of town, walking around Hole in the Ground, looking for antlers, exploring, or visiting Summer Lake Hot Springs, this is a great 5 p.m. dinner spot to hit on your way back into town. You don't need to clean your plate, and I recommend zipper bags, or snap containers for leftovers. This place is not in town, and we have steak houses in town, that are walkable, but this is a treat! RESERVATIONS REQUIRED! Check migration on deer prior, to make sure you have daylight on your side. No alcohol is served at the Cowboy Dinner Tree, fyi. It's a carnivore lovers steak house.

They are now downtown!! You don't have to drive way out of town to find them, with a DD. Popular is the Hazelnut Espresso...I love the Hatch Green Chili over ice/with splash of fresh grapefruit! They even have vodka lip balm....

I used to donate my time here 4+ years, before I moved into town, for work. The thrift scene is only open F + S, 10-3, run by volunteers, proceeds fund the Sunriver Nature Center and Oregon Observatory, with over 70 volunteers, mostly seniors, and they sell tandem bikes, tubes, excellent furniture, clothes with tags on, skis, you just never know. You need swim goggles, towels, ski pants you left at home? This is the circle of tourism life, that "feeds the owls," who become guests at the Nature Center, if they get hit by a car eating roadkill, and need a hospital, which also provides educational services to the tater tots, mushrooming events, and jobs for the biologists graduating university. Jim Anderson, the raptor specialist if you are privileged to meet, is an occasional visitor, newly retired, his shirt is shredded, not because it's old, it's had many raptors on it in schools all over Oregon. Don't miss out on the night time one hour experience offered at the Oregon Observatory. It's the fastest, best, most entertaining hour, great for a puffer jacket, Sunriver cheap, high quality, philanthropy date night!

Not just for daylight beach, paddle board, kayak, picnic, swimming! Its remote, a private nighttime date night suggestion....You need a kayak, full moon, prior reservation for dinner at the lodge, or some flotation snacks, while you wait from sundown, pitch black skies to the full moon picturesque traverse on the water, and is a once in a lifetime treat. Please wear all safety gear, mark your car location, have good equipment, and be prepared for 40+ temp changes.

OMG!! Jeff was my guide, I was able to request. You don't have to have a large group, since they can add you to another easily. The 4 hour trip was up to Elk Lake Lodge, buried in snow, greeted by warm cafe, great hospitality, good quality beverages, potty, and followed by some steep and deep climbs to an area to practice skills, climbing on more remote trails, or soak up the sun and watch the other guests on your tour play, roll over, sooo fun! Highly recommend this adventure. They are fully equipped for goggles, helmets, just bring snow gear, and some $$ for the lunch stop! I am doing this adventure again. It varies per guest, abilities, terrain changes, trail time is the same, and is geared to repeat customers..The crew I went with, this was their 5th 4 hour trip that week!

Beer here!

Hydrate. Elevation is 3500-4000, or more depending on your adventures. One local IPA, pronounced " EYE PEE AYYY", Not "EEE PAY...." will be the best and worst part of your staycation, so steady, slow, hydrate, exercise, hydrate, and repeat, will get you a great experience... Explore! I found at Cascade West, they have a Nitro beer, the keg changes frequently, one of my favorites is the Deschutes Brewery Red Chair. I used to ride on Red Chair when it was invented, long ago. I love Fresh Squeezed too. Black Butte Porter I use in the kitchen, typically with red meat, chili, it's OMG....

WHITE CLAW HERE...

Please. If you must, don't litter. Nothing sadder than to see the cans in the bottom of the river. Please, just claw responsibly, and that means recycle. Please!

Marajuana here...

Bend is good for hiking, picnics, skiing, paddle boarding, floating the river, small venue concerts, craft beer, craft distilleries, craft ciders, food trucks, discovering a trail, sitting by a lake, even frozen ones are amazing. The food scene is good, beverages are good, but add pot, vaping, + Tito's vodka, and your 5 star Airbnb rating isn't going to be good when you leave town. It's going to be an AlkaSeltzer commercial, and you are the star, a one star, or no star guest.
