So many great places to choose from, many within walking distance. The others are in areas you might want to explore, or just because the restaurant is such a destination.
Who would have thought that a blend of Korean & Mexican food could be so addictive. You can eat in or take out. It is a small place and not fancy, but good food + clean.

Famous equally for its hamburgers and brick oven pizza. Hard to choose one over the other. Maybe go with some folks and share both? But go early if you want a burger. They sell out usually before 6:30 because they only make so many each day. Why? I have no idea, but it is a business model that seems to work for them. If it is crowded and you are in a hurry, call ahead to order for pickup and bring home for a feast.

This is a really good restaurant. Great for a date night or out with a group of friends. It is very popular, and they don't take reservations, so if you don't want to wait on the corner for a table to turnover I would recommend you go for lunch or get there on the early side when they open (great idea if you are jet lagged and hungry early.) As a bonus I almost always see famous people in here. I am not great at spotting anybody outside of a screen though, so take somebody who is. And apologies if you come back without a tale of a sighting. You really should just go for the food, not the celeb possibilities anyway. Also it is Brooklyn, nobody asks for autographs.

Classic New York Eastern European Jewish fare. It gets busy, so go prepared to wait a little bit if you are not too hungry. A great place to go if you want to check out the art galleries on the Lower East Side and/or the Tenement Museum, which is fabulous. If you go there, definitely see if you can book a tour online to have the best selection and make some time to shop at their shop downstairs too. Note: Russ and Daughters also has a cafe at The Jewish Museum in Manhattan, an amazing appetizing store (where it all began) on Houston Street and a larger, new appetizing store in the Brooklyn Navy Yards (take B69 bus north on Vanderbilt to Park Ave.)

This place is famous because it is a throwback. You have to go with a group because it gets crazy and that is more fun with a group. You have to go with a heavy eating and drinking mindset. How heavy? Super heavy. If you are up for it, then you will have fun. You probably need a reservation, so give them a call before you head in to town to make sure you can get in. Made famous in the Suzanne Vega song from the 1980's, "Tom's Diner." Great place for breakfast or brunch. Classic vintage NY diner furnishings. Great atmosphere. Pancakes are always a hit, but everything here is good. Very old school, but wonderful service. There can be lines during prime time for brunch on weekends. But the lines are fun! Classic, old-school NYC Jewish-style deli. Meat sandwiches, hot dogs and knishes are the most popular items on the menu with good reason. When I worked with a lot of people who came up to NYC from Washington, DC I would go here routinely with them. Never disappoints, unless you are on a diet, in which case just do not cross their threshold. That reminds me, it has a quirky way of getting you in the door and to the counter to order. I think their pizza is fine. I just don't think it is worth the schlep to get there or the cost of this fine meal. You can get pizza without the insane wait or high cost at a lot of good places. But if you want to go that is cool. It isn't bad and you might think it is really good. If it is a nice enough day outside the pro tip is to go to their takeout shop on the same block and order a pie and eat it at one of their outdoor picnic tables in the yard.

You could grab a slice or two and head to nearby Pratt Institute's campus and walk around and check out the sculpture on their grounds. Their entrance is just across the street. Or stroll west along Dekalb further and you can go chill out in Fort Greene Park.

Best selection of great NYC food offerings all under one roof. Good spot to go to with family or friends or on your own. So much to choose from your biggest problem will be making a selection. Katz's is famous for its deli sandwiches. They are enormous and fabulous, but not cheap. I have tried the sushi roll place, which is so good and the crepe spot, also amazing. I also like the cold brewed coffee at the pastry shop near the entrance. I would try more things, but these are so good I keep going back to the same places. There are big tables to meet up and chow down. Have fun.

Authentic, excellent Caribbean/Jamaican food. It just got a great review in the NY Times too. Famous for jerk chicken and the roti and the Times reviewer loved the jerk shrimp. The vibe is nice. You have to wait a while for the food, so if you go in there and you are hangry, you might get frustrated. The portions are large, so being hungry is good otherwise.

Japan Village is a giant floor of an industrial building that has a lot of wonderful Japanese food and products. Fun for everyone and yum. It is located in Industry City, which is as the name would have you expect and industrial area that has been converted to a lot of shopping and some dining options, the largest being Japan Village. If you are looking to explore another area, especially if it is rainy or really cold out and you want to stay indoors as much as possible, Industry City is a good place to head out to. There is a little park that isn't that far, but you have to walk along the water south of Industry City and it is easy to miss. But it is a nice park with a playground and some soccer fields and great views of the water.

For charming Italian food in Brooklyn: Locanda Vini e Olii in Clinton Hill has so many charms to recommend it. The corner restaurant exudes warmth with plates of satisfying Tuscan fare and decor that recalls the early 20th century pharmacy it once was. There’s a long list of Italian wines, orange included, and with some of the bottles, you can choose to pay for only what you drink. With four or more people, opt for the four-course tasting menu for $55 per person. Dishes like black pepper pici, parpadelle with braised rabbit, and roasted cod are all served in heaping family-style portions. This looks like a good bet if you are exploring downtown Manhattan by the Trade Center, 9/11 Museum, South Street Seaport, or taking ferries to see the Statue of Liberty or Governor's Island. Amazing food, not too fancy and a Michelin star. What more could you ask for? One of my favorite food writers says it is his favorite restaurant in the US now. You usually need reservations, so book ahead if you can. Couple of things to keep in mind: A lot of the food is very spicy. Discuss the heat level of the dishes with your waitstaff before you order. Also the main part of the restaurant can be a noisy spot. During nice weather, if you want to have a more intimate meal, I recommend you ask for a backyard table.

This is a museum that is a nice place to explore. Some of their exhibitions are a bit esoteric (Ellen DeGeneris' antique collection) but there are more far-reaching exhibits that really get you thinking. The one on the 3rd floor which is now all about innovative architecture and community design is amazing. Parks & Nature

There is something for everybody at Brooklyn's famous Prospect Park. It was designed by Olmstead & Vaux who also designed Central Park. We think they finally got it right with Prospect Park. (Just kidding, Central Park is amazing too.) . There is a big paved 3.4 mi. loop inside the park where you could ride a rented CitiBike around, or jog, or walk. There is a public ice skating rink that turns in to a roller skating rink in the warmer weather. A farmer's market happens on Saturday's at the Grand Army Plaza entrance. Miles of peaceful nature to explore. Lots of playgrounds sprinkled around.

I like going to CitiField to see the Mets play sometimes. They are a fun team. The energy at the stadium is always awesome and it is really a good way to see another side of America. Food is kinda lame here (which is normal for sports stadiums) and the beer options are limited and expensive. But that isn't why you will go is it? Go cheer for our sometime hometown heroes if you have time. Also sometimes tix are cheaper on StubHub than at the stadium.

You could see a band play here or you could bowl. Sometimes you can do both. Either way the food is good too. Once a week they have family bowling hours on the weekend.

This movie theater is fabulous. Arena seating so there are a lot of great seats. Majestic old theater with newer screens. They have a lot of first-run movies, indie films and usually also have some sort of special themed festival running with 1-2 other films happening per day as part of that too. You should buy tickets on line if you are going to see a newer film. Otherwise you can buy tickets at the box office.

I love this theater. They are unapologetic about playing movies that they love. This ranges a lot so check out their offerings on the web. I have never seen a bad movie here. I love Japanese films, and they often play here. And French films. And really low-budget indies from the US and the Academy Award shorts and documentaries. Comfy seats, good popcorn and sometimes upbeat and sometimes grumpy staff. It is all good. Their bathrooms are worth checking out. Don't ask why. It is not a bad surprise. I wouldn't do that to you. They are on the lower level.

Closest mid-size traditional grocery store to the apartment. If you are coming from the subway at Fulton Street, I would recommend you go instead to the shops that are just on Fulton near the train. But if you are already at the apartment or have a car and want to load up this is an option. Also the Key Food in Park Slope on 5th Avenue has a parking lot if you have any problems getting parking and you want to do a big shop. This store may also do delivery, I am not sure.

Saturdays from early morning until around 3 or 4pm there is a very large farmer's market nearby at the entrance to Prospect Park -- there is also a large one next to Fort Greene Park if that is more convenient to your activities. There are many great farms that bring their offerings to the market. You really cannot go wrong here if you feel like cooking a bit during your stay. There are other farmer's markets not too far on other days as well. This is an outdoor market that happens no matter the weather. If there is a lot of snow not all the farmers may make it but some definitely will.

This is a fun place to go and have a drink and play shuffleboard with some friends. Or make new friends there and play shuffleboard with them. They have a food truck pull in and serve different things each evening. Check their website to make sure it isn't their league night before you go. That is only 1x a week though, so you are probably good. Seems like a fun place for kids and families, but there is a 21 age minimum, so no kiddies. If you go you can check out Ample Hills Ice Cream down the block for dessert and/or get BBQ up the block, closer to 4th Ave.

This is such a fun place. It is mainly a piano karaoke place, but of a caliber that doesn't exist elsewhere. A friend of ours, Joe McGinty, is the owner. He is one of the best pianists working in NYC now. He does sessions and live shows. Here he offers you the opportunity to sing along with him. Pick a tune, any tune, he knows it. You need reservations for some shows. And there are other kinds of performances there too.

About as classic old-school of a bar as you can find in NYC. More of a local spot, but if you are in Prospect Park and want to see what Brooklyn unchanged bar-wise is like this is as good a place as any. Get a beer on tap. Don't argue. With anybody there. Really. Nice guys, but they all know one another and have been there for a zillion years.

Lovely, small music venue where you can hear magnificent indie musical artists of a lot of different persuasions, often jazz. It isn't always open, only when they have shows, so check their website before heading over. This place is owned and run by our old friend Oren. This is a great spot to go to for brunch (I may get around to double-listing it under food options as well) or to go to just drink some. It is near Prospect Park at the 15th Street/Prospect Park F and G stop on the subways. They have communal tables, a decent sized bar, a lot of beers on tap. Their food happens to be good bar food as well. You go to order at the window in the back and they will bring it out to you when it is ready. The burgers are good and so is the mac and cheese. Other stuff probably is good too, but I am loyal to the above mentioned options. The Nite Hawk movie theater is on the other side of the traffic circle too btw. Other bars nearby too. Great wine selection at Krupa down the block.
