It is important to mention that the area is also famous for its 'pusher street' where soft drugs are sold illegally. However, it is completely safe to be there and very family friendly.

Night time

Kødbyen (meatpacking district) is a spot in Vesterbro close to Copenhagen central station which functions as a meat packing district during the day but houses multiple fantastic restaurants and bars/clubs in the night time. I would recommend you have dinner at Bollyfood if you like indian food, have a G&T at Papa Bird and then head to Jolene if you want to dance all night long.

Søpavillonen is a restaurant located on Gyldenløvesgade 24 by the Lakes in Copenhagen designed by Vilhelm Dahlerup and built 1894-95. The building was originally intended for the Copenhagen Skating Association, but was sold to restaurateur Oscar Davidsen in 1965, and has since been used for disco and restaurant. The restaurant is very high-end but the club is the number 1 party spot in Copenhagen at the moment. So please note, it can be a little difficult to get in as well. Fun fact: I had my senior prom in this building before it was made into a restaurant and club.

My personal favourite brunch spot in Copenhagen (and it is walk-distance from my apartment). The owner is very kind and they have delicious brunch where you can pick a number of small dishes.

If you want to feel like a true danish native, you need to grab a local beer or buy a fashion magazine at KHIOSK which is a tiny supermarket/deli place if you visit the Vesterbro area. This is a local favourite to sit and enjoy the sun on one of their benches.

These food halls downtown are so nice to walk through - if you don't fancy purchasing fresh fish or gourmet chocolate you can always look at the pretty flowers outside while enjoying the sun.

My absolute favorite coffee/beer/local restaurant in the city. It is located five min from my apartment. Here you will get a true Danish cozy feel. It is a must-go! The dinner can be a little expensive but if you go there for breakfast/lunch or a beer it is very fair prices!

HAY House is located at the city centre's center. This huge beautiful building houses the infamous danish design brand HAY. It is located on Strøget (the shopping street) and make sure to bring your wallet - I assure you, that you will end up buying something.

Strøget is the largest shopping street in Denmark which is located in the city centre. It goes from Rådhuspladsen (city hall) all the way down to Kongens Nytorv (close to Nyhavn). Here you will find most stores and coffee shops. Note that it is only for pedestrians - NO CARS :D

Neighbourhoods

Copenhagen can be divided into 6 areas; Frederiksberg, Nørrebro, Vesterbro, Østerbro, København K and Christianshavn.
Technically, the apartment is located on Frederiksberg, which is the ‘richest’ area of Copenhagen. This area has a lot of eldery people and is very family friendly. The best place in Frederiksberg is the Zoo and Frederiksberg Have (large garden). You are actually able to see the elephants from the garden.

When people ask me where I live, I always tell them it’s on Nørrebro (even though my zip code says Frederiksberg) and that is because the apartment is so close to the core of Nørrebro. Walking-distance from the apartment you can find Den røde plads ‘The red square’ which is one amongst multiple artsy public areas in this neighbourhood. Nørrebro is famous for its diversity and they even hold a kebab Championship on Nørrebrogade every single year. Nørrebro is a great area and if you fancy a walk, I recommend you walk (or bike) from Nørrebrogade to Nørreport (city centre) over the bridge at The Lakes. It can be very beautiful during the summer.

This area of Copenhagen is a must-see and where I wish to live in the future. It is very modern and green. I’d recommend you take yourself to the Central Station and then walk down on Istedgade. This street used (still kind of is) to be for prostitution, but today it houses one of the greates restaurants (Falang Asiateria). From Istedgade you go to the meatpacking district (read more about this in my night time favourites) and from here you can go to Sønder Boulevard. This green area houses a lot of beautiful buildings, khiosk, and even an old Church known as Absalon which has now been made into a community hall.

Østerbro is north of Copenhagen and is more of a posh area. Here you will find more historical places. The little mermaid is located on Østerbro.

København K is the city centre. Here you will find the Marble Church, Nyhavn, The Opera etc. It is a must to walk through the city centre and luckily it is very easy to find your way around with the new metro being built. Don’t forget to explore the area around the water - that’s my favorite of the city.

Consejos para la ciudad

Facilidad para moverse por la casa

I would advise travellers to use the Metro

We recently had our metro’s extended. It is very easy to get around as the metro drives in circles around the city.
