Sightseeing

Redwoods Forest is our favorite place to be, come rain or shine. This mountain biking and walking mecca will relax your mind and soul the minute you get in there. Walking and biking tracks start, only 100 metres away from the apartment (Tarawera Road) or you can start at the Redwoods visitor centre – they will be able to give more detailed information of the area. We recommend the yellow walk for great views of the city and Te Puia (home of the Pohutu Geyser). We have a walking map in the apartment for you. We suggest taking photo of the map before you go into the forest to make most of your adventure.

Kuirau Park is free for all and offers a great introduction to the smells and views of the geothermal nature of the area. You can combine this with a walk by the Lake front and a coffee at Third Place café (best custard slices in town!). A Saturday market is held at the Kuirau Park all year round from 7am to 1pm. Here you will find fresh fruit and vegetables, fast food, coffee, arts and crafts and many more items.

If you want to see some white-water action, head to Lake Okere Falls. Even if you don’t raft or kayak the Kaituna you can still have fun watching others come down the falls. Situated approximately 23km from Rotorua, this short walk is great for the whole family (please note there will be some steps to get to the lookout). Don’t forget to stop at Okere Falls Store – eco-friendly café, located on the edge of Lake Rotoiti in Okere Falls (great coffee, and food).
