Seaport Village is a nice restaurant and shopping area along the water near the downtown area. Puesto has delicious chips/salsa and tacos. You can go across the parking lot to the main Seaport Village area and walk off your meal along the water to soak in the San Diego Bay views.

This unassuming liquor shop makes some great sandwiches. We love the TBAC (turkey, bacon, avocado, cheddar). It would be a great stop for lunch after a hike!

This is the closest grocery store to our home and in addition to the basics, they have a great selection of local beers, locally made dips (like Bitchin Sauce and Guacamole) as well as a deli and salad bar for ready-made food. If you plan to grill at home, we recommend trying their pre-marinated tri-tip - it's delicious!

Sightseeing
For any guests who are up for some outdoor exercise, the Cowles Mountain trail is a great workout and offers a beautiful view of San Diego when you get to the top. The ocean is clearly visible when there are no clouds. Some parts are steep so this is not recommended for small children.

La Jolla Shores is a great spot for families because the waves are typically not too strong and there are many outdoor activities to enjoy there. Kayaks, surfboards, and snorkeling/diving gear are available for rent also for those looking to be more active. There is also a playground adjacent to the beach for those looking to stay on land. In the fall, leopard sharks (they're harmless to people!) are often seen along the shallows of the beach with their babies.
