Golfing Vancouver Island

As an avid golfer, Danielle is familiar with many of the courses from Victoria to Campbell River. She is also very familiar with the South Okanagan Golf Trail if you're heading up to the Interior.
HP offers a uniquely challenging championship layout that sits above Portage Inlet in View Royal. I prefer to walk this course, however, be prepared for its up and down track. You can always pick up a cart on the back nine if you find you're putting more energy into your steps than your swing.

People ask me why OV is my favourite course in Victoria and I tell them it's because of the 'feel' I get being there. OV offers a one-stop golf adventure starting with their expansive practice facility, a challenging track and one of the best patios at the end of your round. Again, a very walkable course (note: 17th green to 18th tee is a bit of a climb).

If you have social golfers or little budding stars in your group, this Par 3 golf course is a GREAT way to spend a couple hours swinging your clubs. I regularly play with just a pitching wedge and a putter.....although some might want to take a 9 iron for that over-the-pond shot that requires just a little more carry. GREAT opportunity to brush up on your short game.

Part of the GolfBC Group, this little gem is tucked away in the Cowichan Valley, just 35 mins from our home. I like to get out of town and try other courses every year - Arbutus is always on my list. Walkable but again, some tee boxes can be a little further from your last green than normal. Well worth the drive! And while you're up in the Valley, be sure to check out one of the many wineries in the Valley.

I grew up in the neighbourhood many years ago and just last year I drove up for a two-day golf stay and so glad we dropped into this newly designed course. I'm not sure where to start but the owners of this course have done a fabulous job in catering to a golfer's needs. The practice facility was just being completed so we only got a sneak peek but from what we saw, it's an experience in itself. The layout is more park like, very walkable and the expansive clubhouse is a beauty to say the least.

For every golfer out there....if you haven't done a play and stay at Crown Isle then you're missing out. They have an outstanding reputation for good reason. This is my go-to resort for accommodation with their expansive villas and its proximity to other local courses. Very walkable, long open fairways and pristine conditions. Never disappointed!

Cycling in the City

Price and Danielle have spent the past 2 1/2 years getting to know Victoria on two wheels rather than four. Cycling paths make commuting a breeze whether you're off to work, the grocery store, or a tour of downtown. Decommissioned rail lines, the Lochside Trail, Galloping Goose and E&N Trail make Victoria a cyclist's haven from the ferry terminal to the Victoria Harbour and out to the Sooke Potholes.
Love the ease of getting around without having to battle cars, lights and busy intersections. Here are someTrail Etiquette & Tips: -Share the trail and keep right except to pass. -Front and back lights are not mandatory but they do provide better visibility to others. -Cyclists yield to pedestrians, control your speed (max 32 km) and warn other users before passing. -Remember to bring water and stay hydrated. -Keep dogs under control or on a leash and please pick up after your pets. -Respect private property adjacent to the trail. -Pass horseback riders with caution, horses may startle easily. -At night, all users should carry a light and wear reflective clothing. -Do your part to keep the trail clean, don’t litter. -Please respect wildlife.

This is a great biking trail that takes you west of Victoria all the way out to the Sooke Pot Holes. It is paved through to Colwood and then becomes a hard packed trail for the remainder of the ride. We always pack a lunch as there are many park benches as you near Sooke for a mid-day stop. Did You Know that the E&N Rail Trail: - is a paved bike and pedestrian trail. - links downtown Victoria to the western communities: runs through Victoria, Esquimalt, View Royal and Langford. - is part of regional trails network which includes Galloping Goose and Lochside Regional Trails. - supports active recreation, and provides a commuting route with reduced travel time for active transportation.

Before moving to Victoria, we cycled from Langley to Victoria for a long weekend. Our starting point was getting off the ferry at Swartz Bay and jumping onto the Lochside Trail all the way into Victoria. We spent a glorious, sunny weekend exploring the region and taking in the long weekend festivities. The Lochside Regional Trail is another old railway line which has been converted into a recreational trail from Sidney to Victoria where it joins with the Galloping Goose Regional Trail. Creating a trail system which extends from Swartz Bay at the northern tip of the Saanich Pennisla, to the Sooke Basin on the south western coast of Vancouver Island.
