Food Scene
This is my favorite restaurant. The food is excellent and healthy and fun to eat. I brought a Japanese friend there and he thought they had the best miso soup since he had lived in Japan. Also he said the food was really authentic. They also have lots of great Hokusai prints on the walls. The bento box can easily be shared between two people and we have shared the Shabu Shabu between six of us and couldn't finish it.

I live two doors away from their kitchen and the smells are delicious, but the food is fantastic. Their line on a beautiful weekend morning is 45 minutes but there are pleasant places to sit on the square. Otherwise you can get in right away. The Harper Rose Eggs are good, but the salmon, eggs, capers and biscuits is my favorite egg dish. But when you come right down to it, the biscuits and onion jam often is my favorite lite breakfast. They have pancakes and waffles also that are a delight.

There is a lovely 15 minute hike through the woods to get to the beach. This year the water is a bit high so the beach is a little short. There is one porta potty near the beach and no food stands, but you go there for the hiking throughout the dune complex, the beach, and the spectacular sand dunes.

You can walk through this beautiful area on trails. My husband is a geologist and a sand dune expert and he, his students, and colleagues do their studies on these dunes to check which way the wind blows the sand and how fast and many other things. If you see some guys and gals carrying strange equipment on their backs or looking at funny equipment on the sand dunes give them a hello. My husband also helped design the trail system out their.

This is like a tiny amusement park from the 1950s. It is the perfect size for children, not huge and overwhelming. The rides are a small ferris wheel, carousel, and a Dutch swing, but they also have a small zip line. I take adults here as well though since they have a tiny Dutch village with cheesemaking, witch scale, museum, and Dutch dancers. There is a large store with Dutch things and a wooden show maker. Everyone has a good time and it doesn't break the bank.

I like their mimosas, ciders, ginger beers, hot toddies and other low alcohol or alcohol free drinks. The menu changes constantly and they have 31 taps. Also the decor is upscale and homey.

The Cappon House is a historic house built by the mayor of Holland after the 1871 fire that razed the town. The house was built with the newest and best furniture of the time. It then stayed in the same family for 100 years before it was donated lock, stock, and barrel to the City of Holland. All of the original furniture and bric a brac remains. It is a jewel.

They pick you up wherever you are and take you where you want to go for a very small fee. You can get to the beach, the stores, and everywhere else in the Saugatuck-Fennville area. I don't think I would ever drive if I lived in Saugatuck, Douglass or Fennville.
