Zaragoza is best described as a street market bodega. You come here for that hard to find Mexican spices or for real Mexican food, made by real Mexicans and uniquely authentic, both in quality and price.

Drinks & Nightlife

Calling ABC a "bar" is not good enough. Its part grocery store (of beer and cheese) upfront and a communal space in the back where you can enjoy some of the best craft beer -nationwide but with a high focus on regional brews. Its also very family friendly, which is hard to find in the East Village but your child (babies too) will enjoy it as much as you will.

Super cute/intimate wine bar where all wine is on cask. In addition, select wonderful craft beers and some of the best small plate options. Get there early because its intimate size results in little seating space after 6pm.

Like Sports? From Football (US and the real football) to your random "request" of a cricket match --they welcome you with open bars. The Best Chicken Wings in the the city, hands down, but you should really order the Mussels.

This is taken directly from waggle (my editorial site for dog owners): Here’s what most people know about Mona’s: the drinks are cheap, the jukebox has the Pixies’ Doolittle and you must write your name on the chalkboard for “next” at the pool table. And every Tuesday and Wednesday, you can catch live bluegrass and jazz music. The insider secret is that if you have a well-behaved dog, they too can partake of this Alphabet City bar, granted you cozy up and befriend the ‘regulars.’ And by regulars, we mean the half dozen or so dogs who’ve made Mona’s their place to hang out any and everyday. A mainstay in the ever-changing northern boundary of Avenue B, Mona’s is best for your four-legged friend around happy hour everyday of the week. If you’re lucky enough to not have work like normal folk or are enjoying fun-employment, you can even request to watch a movie from their Netflix account on the sole TV while your dog enjoys the secret doggie treats behind the bar. Requesting Air Bud will deservingly result in your getting some questionable stares, but Cool Hand Luke will cement your place at this local hangout. Jeopardy is a very serious experience here, so unless you actually know the answer, keep it to yourself. You have been warned. If your bedtime allows you stay up past 11pm, the live music on Monday & Tuesday is some of the best in the city (bluegrass and jazz).

One of the oldest (there's daily arguments on whether it is or not) bars in New York City. The walls are filled with history and the bathrooms look like they are over 100 years old, which they are.

Central Park aside, this is one of the most beautiful parks in the city. From spectacular views of One World Trade to the Empire State Building, standing in one spot, you can do a 360 and see them both in seconds. Great photo opportunity all time of day.

Arts & Culture

The most famous street in the neighborhood, drastically has changed in the last decade but its still an ode to the weirdness and bohemian style of the area.

Shopping

Soho is less than a mile away where you can go crazy with both high end designers and also street vendors and side street boutique shops. I love the UNIQLO on Broadway, and everyone should have an Ultra Light jacket.

One of the most important economical areas of Old New York. Since Sandy destroyed most of it, its going through a very aggressive re-build and there are now great bars, restaurants and still beautiful views of the East River and Brooklyn. You can even take a nice nap on of the elevated promenades.

Essentials

Trader Joe's a crazy mess anytime after 3pm, so "quality" times are always 11-3pm. Next door you can go pick up some well priced wines at the TJ wine store. Short walk from my apartment or small fare taxi or uber ride.
