Parks & Nature

Cape Point is the southern most tip of the Cape Peninsula. It is a huge park, with numerous walks and hiking trails. It is also possible to cycle here, but you have to get an activity permit from Cape Nature. There are also a number of beaches. And a furnicular up to a viewing point, or you can walk up. There is a good restaurant with wonderful views and a shop selling souvenirs. There are lots of baboons in the park - fun to see but do not feed them!

Shopping

About a 10 to 15 minute drive from Simon's Town, this is a fairly small but well stocked shopping mall, where you can get all your essentials and more. There is a grocery store (Pick 'n Pay) and a more upmarket clothing and food store (Woolworths), as well as clothing stores, liquor store, fruit and veg shop, pharmacy, and more. There are small shops in Simon's Town itself for basic food stuffs, but to stock up, I would recommend a trip to Longbeach.

Getting Around

There is a station as you enter Simon's Town; however, at times the tracks between Simon's Town and Fish Hoek are closed as they are working on the rails. When this is the case, they do provide a bus service to Fish Hoek station. The train is a fun way to get into Cape Town, especially the part to Muizenberg as the track runs right along the ocean. Just don't flaunt your valuables!

Drinks & Nightlife

The Brass Bell in Kalk Bay is a group of restaurants and pubs, with one fancier place and the others good for families and the younger crowd. It is always busy, so go early or book a table. It is a great place for whalewatching in the season (approximately July to October). Excellent calamari.

Entertainment & Activities

Planet Kids in Muizenberg is a good place to go on a rainy day, if you have kids. It is a mainly indoor play centre for kids, with a variety of different activities. You can order snacks and drinks.
